News & Research: Article Round-Up

Here is what you need to know from stories, research and data released this week:

  • New York Times, “How to save for college.” Editor's Take: Comprehensive overview of 529s and college financial planning. Thank you Tara Siegel Bernard for creating and sharing.
  • Real Money Robert, “A step-by-step guide to creating a family budget.” Editor's Take: The article highlights the long- and short-term expenses for parents, including education financial planning. It also highlights the importance of cash flow management, and issues and hurdles to financial planning for parents.
  • Bloomberg, “Violent stock reversals are coming faster than any time since 2011.” Editor's Take: Education financial planning is a long-term goal and investment. Recent market volatility provides an opportunity to continue to save automatically throughout market cycles. While dollar cost averaging through automatic contributions helps to build long-term strength in college affordability for families, those with beneficiaries that are closer to enrollment have an opportunity to take advantage of the growing and strengthening conservative investment line-ups in 529 plans. In the meantime, help your clients to create an education financial plan and have the conversation today.
