  • 529 Insiders, “Status Board: SECURE Act 529 State Updates.” Editor’s Take: Effective July 22, 2022 and per plan disclosure agreement here, Nebraska was updated from “Not Allow Student Loans & Allow Apprenticeship Withdrawals State Tax Free” to “Allow Student Loans & Allow Apprenticeship Withdrawals State Tax Free.” As such, Nebraska was updated to allow qualified 529 distributions for student loan repayments.
  • Ballard Spahr, “SEC Attorney Ernesto Lanza Rejoins Ballard Spahr Finance Practice in Washington, D.C.” Editor’s Take: Congrats to Ernesto Lanza, and best of luck in your new role. He has presented at the 529 Conference in the past and will present at 529 Conference 2022, and is an important contact for the 529 industry. ABLE accounts are tax-advantaged savings accounts for certain individuals with disabilities and their families.

  • Texas ABLE Program, “Texas ABLE Connections.” Editor’s Take: Congrats and thank you Texas ABLE on the continuation of your newsletter with sections on feature articles, key facts, savings ideas, tips and more. Have a look to learn more.
  • ABLE Age Adjustment Act Status Board: The bill would increase the age of onset for eligibility to open an ABLE account from 26 years old to 46 years old. As of July 22, 2022, the bill sponsorship was as follows:
    • Senate (S331): 1 sponsor and 21 cosponsors
    • Congress Sponsorship (HR1219): 1 sponsor and 87 cosponsors
