  • 529 Insiders, “List of 529 Savings Plans by State.” Editor’s Take: ISS Market Intelligence has updated the 529 Insiders status board to reflect the product update effective August 29, 2022, that Oklahoma 529 College Savings Plan has been relabeled to Oklahoma 529 with new rebranding and a new website. The relabeling aligns with the broadening of the qualified higher education expenses from college to student loans, apprenticeships, and K-12 tuition as reported in the 529 Insiders status board here. ABLE accounts are tax-advantaged savings accounts for certain individuals with disabilities and their families.

  • Hillsboro Free Press, “New Federal Regulation for ABLE Plans Take Effect in Kansas on July 1.” Editor’s Take: Kansas state legislation HB 2490 went into effect on July 1 and will expand who may open an ABLE account for residents of Kansas, thereby expanding usage of ABLE accounts within Kansas. ABLE continues to grow in terms of number of accounts and families, and the ABLE industry continues to reduce or remove hurdles to their growth.   • 529 Insiders, “2Q 2022 ABLE Market Sizing Highlights.” Editor’s Take: As of June 2022, there were a total of 126,192 ABLE accounts investing $1.108 billion in assets. Read the article to learn more, and thank you for the support and encouragement to cover ABLE.
  • ABLE Age Adjustment Act Status Board: The bill would increase the age of onset for eligibility to open an ABLE account from 26 years old to 46 years old. As of September 2, 2022, the bill sponsorship was as follows:
    • Senate (S331): 1 sponsor and 21 cosponsors
    • Congress Sponsorship (HR1219): 1 sponsor and 95 cosponsors
