529 & ABLE News & Research
|
Here is what you need to know from stories, research, and data released this week:
- College Savings Foundation (CSF), “High school students lean in to shouldering the cost of higher ed by saving, working and living at home, says College Savings Foundation.” Editor’s Take: CSF fielded its 16th annual youth survey on how families approach the education financial planning process. Read the article here and infographic here to learn key findings and takeaways.
- Oregon College Savings Plan, “Save up with BottleDrop.” Editor’s Take: Oregon College Savings Plan has teamed up with BottleDrop to allow returns from bottle and can returns to get directly deposited into Oregon 529 accounts. Since launching the program, over 6,942 families have used the program to earn over $2.01 million in 529 contributions by recycling over 20.10 million cans and bottles. In turn, Oregon residents can receive a state tax deduction through their 529 contributions. Therefore, families can earn their dime back and more through the state income tax deduction for each and every can and bottle recycled. Research shows that those that aggregate the largest 529 balances come from those that make automatic recurring contributions and one-time contributions throughout the year. Therefore, have the education financial planning conversation today, and make sure you incorporate positive money habits into the game plan.
